The Department of Architecture University of Pandanaran offers a Bachelor of Science Degree in Architecture (Sarjana Arsitektur, or S.Ars). The S.Ars is a four-year pre-professional program in which the majority of the credits taken by the students are in studio-based courses, which becomes a medium for students to exercise design knowledge and skills as the core content of the program. The sequence of the course designed for this degree meets two objectives:

The curriculum is characterized by the studio-based subjects as the core contents in which students learn various skills and knowledge in design to develop their basic capabilities in architecture or in interior architecture disciplines. In studio students will develop the ability to think critically about their ideas and explore the creative process, either in architecture or interior architecture design in relation to these ideas. The direct experience of design is crucial to an understanding of architecture and urban design and their relation to contemporary social, political and cultural events.

Students will experience the design process in a studio setting where projects engage the issues raised by academic coursework. The design studios are also supported by various courses consisting of basic university subjects; basic engineering subjects; basic and intermediate architecture subjects and electives. This scheme is aimed to assure that the program involves the acquisition of design capabilities; knowledge awareness and skills in architectural studies.

Seeing that the objective of the program is to offer pre-professional degree in architecture, the program provides firm basic knowledge or theories in architectural disciplines, in particular design knowledge, as well as electives that may enhance students’ knowledge in particular interests. Additionally, the final assessment of the program is writing a Skripsi or an undergraduate thesis in architecture. This assessment may provide a basic knowledge and skills for graduates to undertake further a postgraduate program either in architecture or in a program that is not necessarily confined to architecture.
